#127: Bill 78 – You Are Draconian - Howard Tessler

Close your eyes, pretend it doesn’t exist

keep them closed, try to resist

can you still feel the power to insist

austerity measures imposed,

is a means of crowd control?

The story in Canada, province of Quebec

is not about tuition fees, it is the intuition of long-term debt

It is an honourable thing to pay what is owed,

being accountable,

not wanting to become saddled

with an overburdened load

this is long-term thinking, visioning,

to rid oneself of debt insurmountable

Aside from ordering this long-term load

the government of Quebec is trying to goad

its citizens with a draconian law called Bill 78 –

an attack on freedom, association, and assembly-

how can the government be filled with such fear and hate?

Like any pimple, boil or zit

there was a cause, now a simmering effect

slowly starting to seep before it explodes

pressure building, keep silent, do what is told

now it is no longer just students who are defiant and bold

Freedom is as freedom does

speak out, stand up, this is the cause

living for something that really matters

fulfilled by caring for human rights

can you hear the sound of these people’s plights?

Listen very carefully, this is the tenor of the age.

Caring for all, caring for now, caring for tomorrow,

this is the heartbeat’s rally, caring, to care, do you care?

THESE are words important and sage.
